Excellence and Creativity at UTM: Congratulations to the Winners of the 2026 National Technical Olympiad

21 March 2026 was a memorable day for high school students passionate about science and the arts. The Technical University of Moldova became a meeting point for some of the country’s most promising young minds, hosting a new edition of the National Technical Olympiad in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Informatics and Artistic Drawing. The event brought together talented students from across Moldova, who put their knowledge, skills and creativity to the test, offering a glimpse of the generation that will shape the country’s future.

This year’s edition confirmed the growing scale of the competition, with 164 participants, twice as many as last year. The Râșcani campus was alive with energy, as students eager to prove themselves stepped into an environment where analytical thinking and artistic expression met naturally.

Addressing the students in a packed hall, Radu Melnic, Director of the Center for Career Guidance and Counseling, congratulated them for taking part in such a demanding competition. He noted that, over time, these olympiads have opened the way to successful careers for many young people and encouraged participants to pursue their goals with confidence, seeing UTM as a place where their potential can continue to grow.

After the opening session, the atmosphere shifted from celebratory to focused, as participants moved to the designated rooms for each subject. Students had traveled from across the country, including Chișinău, Anenii Noi, Basarabeasca, Bălți, Călărași, Căușeni, Cimișlia, Criuleni, Drochia, Dubăsari, Fălești, Florești, Ialoveni, Nisporeni, Orhei, Rezina, Strășeni, Șoldănești, Telenești and Ungheni.

The tasks were designed to go beyond theory, challenging students to apply what they know and think critically. In Mathematics, participants worked through complex problems that required both creativity and precision. In Physics, they relied on careful reasoning and calculations to interpret the laws of nature. Chemistry tested their understanding of reactions and molecular structures, while Informatics pushed them to develop efficient algorithms and original coding solutions. In Artistic Drawing, students showed how technical accuracy and creative vision can come together, producing well-balanced and expressive works.

For many, the day meant more than competition. It was their first real contact with university life and with the modern facilities of UTM. Conversations with professors and the chance to see where engineering and design projects are developed turned the experience into an informal but valuable introduction to future career paths.

By the end of the day, what remained was not only a set of results, but the sense of a generation ready to take on challenges. Regardless of rankings, all 164 participants left UTM with greater confidence in their passion for science and the arts. The university’s doors remain open to these young talents, future engineers, architects and IT specialists who will turn today’s ideas into tomorrow’s reality.

Congratulations go to this year’s winners, who stood out through dedication, talent and originality. Their performance reflects many hours of work and a genuine commitment to learning.

At the same time, all participants deserve recognition. Taking part in a competition of this level is already an achievement.
