UTM & CMDA: A Partnership to Boost Innovation and Entrepreneurial Spirit

The Technical University of Moldova and the Municipal Center for Entrepreneurship Development (CMDA) today formalized a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening entrepreneurial education and supporting the integration of students into the business ecosystem. The signing of the cooperation agreement, which took place at UTM, marks an important step toward building a skilled workforce and fostering innovation in the Republic of Moldova.

Highlighting the significance of this initiative, UTM Rector Professor Viorel Bostan emphasized the university’s essential role in promoting entrepreneurship and preparing students for the challenges of the labor market. Representing UTM were also Associate Professor Rafael Ciloci, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Engineering and Business, and Associate Professor Lilia Chiriac, Head of the Department of Economic Theory and Marketing, reflecting the faculty’s active commitment to this partnership. In turn, CMDA Director Petru Gurgurov reaffirmed the institution’s openness toward students by offering internship opportunities and helping them understand how businesses are developed. “We have acceleration programs,” Gurgurov added, emphasizing the practical opportunities CMDA provides.

The overall objective of the agreement is to establish strong inter-institutional cooperation focused on training and deepening knowledge in the evolution of information technologies and their smart application in the development of electronic services. The partnership also aims to develop entrepreneurial skills and culture among students, giving them access to information and hands-on experience. The ultimate goal is to ensure a high level of qualification for UTM graduates by integrating academic study with the practical expertise of public institutions involved in developing digital services for government.

The agreement outlines a series of mutual commitments designed to achieve the intended goals:

The Technical University of Moldova will contribute by:

  • integrating updated courses into the academic curriculum focused on applying technological innovations in public services.
  • carrying out applied research with technology transfer aligned with the needs of CMDA and companies in the ICT sector.
  • promoting the efficiency and modernization of government public services.
  • organizing joint events and conferences on topics such as ICT, information security, and e-governance.

The Municipal Center for Entrepreneurship Development has committed to:

  • providing students with access to information on available financial resources.
  • enhancing the academic process in line with UTM’s current and long-term educational needs.
  • involving students in the implementation of technological innovations and ensuring information security and quality.
  • offering available spaces in the Municipal Business Incubator and organizing meetings with students.
  • supporting SMEs initiated by UTM students in their start-up and development phases.

Additionally, the parties will collaborate through regular information exchange, co-publication of promotional materials, and participation in conferences and seminars.

This partnership underscores the importance of collaboration between academia and the public sector in building a knowledge- and innovation-driven economy.
