On September 25, the Technical University of Moldova participated in a series of events organized on the occasion of the European Cooperation Day in the Republic of Moldova, now at its 10th edition. The event, titled “Overcoming borders for strengthened cooperation”, included the presentation of the results of EU-funded projects.
In the presence of Jānis MAŽEIKS, head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Dumitru BUDIANSCHI, Minister of Finance, Ana REVENCO, Minister of Internal Affairs in the Republic of Moldova, Alla NEMERENCO, Minister of Health in the Republic of Moldova, Marius Ciprian TOTH, Minister Plenipotentiary, Embassy of Romania in the Republic of Moldova, Victor POEDE, representative of the Iași Joint Technical Secretariat, on behalf of the Regional Office for Cross-Border Cooperation, Daniela POJAR, TUM vice-rector for Finance and International Relations, reviewed the cross-border cooperation projects conducted at TUM with the support of EU and Romania, including 6 ongoing SOFT projects; 1 HARD project (currently being signed); several infrastructure and visual identity projects, which are part of the Joint Operational Program Romania – Republic of Moldova for 2014-2020.
One of the nominated projects – HAZARM – Integrated Networks for Hazard Risk Management 2SOFT/4.2/77, organized for a period of 18 months (June 2020 – December 2021), in partnership with the Technical University „Gh. Asachi” from Iași (the coordinator of the project) and the Institute of Geology and Seismology from Chișinău, aims to reduce the gap between Romania and the Republic of Moldova in the field of action planning in case of emergencies, as well as in the strategic approach to natural disasters, through creating a cross-border hazard management network at the eastern border of the European Union. The total budget of the project is 294,000.00 Euro.
The CBCinMEE project – Cross Border Cooperation in Mechatronics Engineering Education 2SOFT/1.1/64 – is coordinated by TUM, in partnership with the Technical University „Gh. Asachi” from Iași. Expected to run for 18 months (September 29, 2020 – March 28, 2022), the project aims to increase access to education and improve the quality of education through cross-border cooperation between the two universities – TUM and TUIASI. The total budget of the project is 222,230.00 Euro.
INTELWASTES – Intelligent Valorisation of Agro-food Industrial Wastes 2SOFT/1.2/83 – the third project coordinated by TUM, in partnership with the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine “Ion Ionescu de la Brad” from Iași. The project is planned for September 2020 – February 2022, aiming to strengthen the research and innovation potential of universities through sustainable cross-border cooperation for the efficient use of industrial agri-food waste, obtained from the processing of grapes, fruits and vegetables. The total budget of the project is 120,000.00 Euro.
ELBUS – Improving the cross-border public transportation using electric buses supplied with renewable energy 2SOFT/3.1/54 – another project coordinated by the Technical University „Gh. Asachi” from Iași, which, between June 2020 and December 2021, aims to develop cross-border public transport with electric buses powered by renewable energy sources. The total budget of the project is 97,880.00 Euro.
Similarly, for a period of 18 months (September 2020 – February 2022), it is planned to strengthen cross-border cooperation between academia and entrepreneurship for increasing access to quality education by applying the CEE project – Collaborative Entrepreneurial Education 2SOFT/1.1/1, having as partners: ODIMM (coordinator), the Technical University „Gh. Asachi” from Iași and Iași County Board of Small and Medium Enterprises, Romania. The total budget of the project is 381,877.00 Euro.
Another SOFT project is being carried out at TUM, in partnership with the Technical University „Gh. Asachi” from Iași (coordinator) and the State Agrarian University of Moldova – CROSSCOMP – Cross-border Regional Hub of Competences for Automotive Industry 2SOFT/1.1/1, aiming to encourage the improvement of cross-border cooperation between the three universities and to increase the institutional potential of the partners for building a workforce in accordance with the latest requirements in the automotive engineering sector, leading to an increase in the level of proficiency of tertiary education students on both sides of the border, endowed with market-relevant skills to ensure the improvement of the employment rate of graduates and to meet the growing needs of regional companies. The total budget of the project is 444,000.00 Euro.
The only HARD project under the process of being signed – WiNet@Uni – Joint Cross border Networking Infrastructure of Technical Universities of Iasi and Moldova 1HARD/3.1/75, expected for a period of 24 months, aims to contribute to social innovation by modernizing the communications infrastructure and encouraging access to the electronic society, as well as developing trans-country cooperation and interaction between and within the participating universities: Technical University „Gh. Asachi” from Iași (coordinator) and TUM. The total budget of the project is 1,944,415.00 Euro.
The presentation of the respective projects included maps of the lands targeted in the respective projects, urban plans correlated with the maps of the involved parties, lists of the equipment procured and installed in the specialized laboratories of TUM, activities of dissemination and promotion of the registered results, as well as modernization of university courses (e.g., Automotive Engineering).
Expressing high appreciation for the support that TUM benefits from in the nominated projects, the vice-rector Daniela POJAR expressed her conviction that the Republic of Moldova and, implicitly, the Technical University of Moldova will continue to conduct reforms with the same responsibility and dedication – for the creation of sustainable and mutually beneficial cross-border cooperation.
