CYBERCOR at the European Cybersecurity Skills Conference

On September 26-27, 2024, Millenáris Park in Budapest hosted the 3rd European Cybersecurity Skills Conference, a significant event organized under the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council, in collaboration with ENISA. The conference brought together prominent figures in the field of cybersecurity, providing an ideal setting for sharing experiences, addressing challenges, and disseminating best practices.

The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) is dedicated to achieving a high common level of cybersecurity across Europe. Established in 2004 and strengthened by the EU Cybersecurity Act, ENISA contributes to EU cyber policy, increases trust in ICT products, services, and processes through cybersecurity certification schemes, collaborates with EU member states and bodies, and helps Europe prepare for future cyber challenges. By sharing knowledge, enhancing capacity, and raising awareness, ENISA works with key stakeholders to increase trust in the connected economy, boost the resilience of the Union’s infrastructure, and ultimately ensure the digital security of Europe’s society and citizens. More information about ENISA and its activities can be found at www.enisa.europa.eu.

The CYBERCOR National Cybersecurity Innovation Institute of the Technical University of Moldova was represented by its director, Ludmila PECA, and the IT Systems and Engineering Program Manager, Roman NEAGU. Their participation in the conference was made possible with the involvement of Future Technologies Activity (FTA), supported by USAID, Sweden, and UK Aid. The conference featured notable figures from the cybersecurity industry and renowned academics who discussed the future of developing cybersecurity skills within the European Union.

Representatives from FTA and CYBERCOR reaffirmed their institutions’ dedication to developing and strengthening cybersecurity skills, both nationally and across Europe. Their involvement at the conference reflects a strong commitment to advancing these essential areas in alignment with the EU’s strategy and ENISA’s mission to create a more secure digital environment for all European citizens. By participating, they also underscored their support for cybersecurity initiatives and fostered the exchange of global knowledge and best practices.

A key focus of the conference was navigating the EU’s regulatory landscape for cybersecurity skills. The discussions highlighted the critical need for certifying cybersecurity competencies, with in-depth presentations on the European Cybersecurity Skills Framework (ECSF). Dimitra Liveri, head of awareness and education at ENISA, also led discussions on aligning or integrating these efforts with the NIS2 Directive (the EU Directive on the Security of Network and Information Systems).

“These discussions are vital for CYBERCOR in its mission to bring innovative solutions and to prepare future generations of cybersecurity experts. This approach aligns with our objectives to enhance national capacity and effectively respond to the evolving landscape of cyber threats. The relevance of these discussions for CYBERCOR is clear, as we aim to provide cutting-edge solutions and train the next generation of cybersecurity experts,” said Ludmila PECA, Executive Director of CYBERCOR.
