From May 18 to 21, 2026, the Technical University of Moldova held the UTM Staff Sports Competition, bringing together 254 employees from faculties, departments and university subdivisions. The event focused on sport, teamwork and the chance to connect beyond the usual academic environment.
For several days, the UTM campus shifted into a different rhythm. Colleagues stepped away from laboratories, offices and lecture halls to take part in competitions that tested their focus, endurance, coordination and teamwork. The atmosphere was friendly and supportive, built around fair play, encouragement and the simple joy of being active together.
Speaking about the role of these events in strengthening the university community, UTM Rector Viorel Bostan said:
“At UTM, the Olympic spirit is still very much alive, bringing our community together through competition. These days give employees a chance to meet colleagues outside the usual academic setting, experience a different atmosphere and test abilities they may not use in their everyday university work.”
The 2026 UTM Staff Sports Competition included the following events:
- mini-football;
- mixed volleyball;
- chess;
- darts;
- checkers;
- basketball shooting;
- table tennis;
- light weightlifting;
- arm wrestling.
The Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning won this year’s competition, taking first place for the third year in a row. With this result, the faculty became the permanent holder of the UTM Staff Sports Competition Cup. The Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics placed second, while the Technical Department came third.
This year’s competition once again showed that university life is shaped not only by teaching, research and institutional projects, but also by shared experiences that bring colleagues closer together.
Thank you to everyone who took part and brought energy, commitment and team spirit to this year’s competition.
