I. GENERAL INFORMATION
The discipline “Physical education” form in the students a competent attitude towards their own body; the exigency of physical and functional self-improvement, at the same time educating the student’s personality multiaspectually, through social involvement.
In order to achieve the objectives set in 1964 with the establishment of Polytechnic Institute of Chişinîu (TUM), Department of Physical Education was created on the of invited teachers from the republic: Vladimir COSOV, Nicolai ZAYTSEV (Greco Roman and Freestyle Wrestling), Fiodor SHEVCHENKO (gymnastics ), George MOCANU (soccer), Elena COJUHARIOVA (swimming), Ivan COSENCO (gymnastics), Vladimir SIMINEL (volleyball), Matvei LIPOV (basketball), Petru RUSNAC (wrestling).
The first head of the Department was the senior lecturer, specialist in Athletics – Constantin Zgherea (period 1964-1965).
From the first year of studies there have been prepared teams in various branches of sports, able to compete at the level of higher education institutions and the national championship.
In the period 1965-1969 the department leadership was taken over by the senior lecturer Fiodor SHEVCENCO.
The next two years (1969-1971) the head of the department was senior lecturer Serghei LEGASI.
In the period 1971-1991 the department was led by Nicolae MUHIN, pedagogue with a wide experience in physical education and sport.
In the years 1989 – 1992 there was created a parallel Department “Physical Education – 2”, which was organizing the educational process at the Faculty of Industrial and Civil Construction and Faculty of Urbanism and Architecture, led by Vladimir MODELEVSCHI Associate professor, a graduate of of TUM.
In 1992 the two departments were merged. In the period 1991-2007 the department was led by university professor Petru RUSNAC.
Since December 2007 the Department is headed by Anatoly POPUSOI, Coach Emeritus of RM.
Until 1989 the department had the status of an autonomous subdivision, in the 1989-1992 a department was considered a component part Mechanics Faculty and the other – within the FCGC. Currently it is ascribed to FEEE.
Department currently conducts the physical activity through the Coordinating Council for the Development of Physical Education and Sports, headed by acad. Ion BOSTAN.
University sports base has favorable conditions for the qualitative organization of educational process at the study discipline physical education as well as to improve the mastery of students and staff in many branches of sport. The Youth Sports Complex, located at 2/2 Studentilor str., has two football pitches – turf and artificial grass, tennis and volleyball, a track having 8 running and jumping sectors. The Center of Sports and Leisure at 3/8, Studentilor str., has a gym, a sports hall for basketball, volleyball, handball, badminton, table tennis, mini-football. In the gym at 4, Florilor str. is organized the educational process for FEEE, FEMET, FLI and in the gym in Botanica sect., 41, Dacia str. – FCGC, FEEB, FUA.
Thanks to the professionalism of teachers – coaches and students, every year the sports teams of TUM evolve successfully in national championships and international competitions in football, basketball, rugby, handball, volleyball, badminton, athletics, table tennis, judo, sambo, Greco Roman and Freestyle Wrestling, powerlifting, martial arts, sports orientation etc..

Anatolie POPUSOI, born on 05.03.1957, v. Nezavertailovca, Slobozia, head of physical education department, graduated the Pedagogical Institute “Ion Creanga”, PhD student of the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport, Coach Emeritus of RM, PhD in pedagogical sciences, associate professor, member of the TUM Senate, the FEEE Council, Vice President of Federation of University Sports, Director of Olympic Academy of Moldova, more than 20 scientific, methodical and practical publications, including the monograph “Analysis of Training Performance Sportsmen and Data on the World Elite on 400m Fencing “(the monograph was mentioned by the European Federation of Athletics when exposed to competition), participant in seminars, conferences, congresses organized by the Department for the Development of Sport of the Council of Europe, International, European and Regional Sports Federations, International Olympic Academy.
Covaliova Tatiana, born on 31.07.1962, Chisinau, graduated the State Pedagogical Institute “I. Creanga”, graduate of the National Institute of Physical Education and Sport(Master), senior lecturer, responsible for didactic activity, coach of Volleyball Team (women collaborators) TUM, referee of national category, Candidate in Masters of Sports (volleyball); international courses for coaches, 2000; international forum for teachers of physical education.
Nadejda PRIJILEVSCAIA, born on 25.02.1957, Chisinau, graduated the Institute of Physical Education “P. Lesgaft “Leningrad; senior lecturer, responsible for physical education at FEEB, medical examination and special medical groups, coach of PFG groups, Candidate in Masters of Sports (fencing), training courses, Kiev, 1987.
Faina OCUNSCHI, born on 30.03.1952, Kirov reg., Russia, graduated the State pedagogical Institute “I. Creanga”, senior lecturer, responsible for didactic activity, internships at the Institute of Physical Education, Kiev (1988).
Boris REUTOV, born on 29.01.1939, Moscow, Russia, graduated the the State University of Moldova, senior lecturer, coach of triathlon force squad of TUM, Master of Sports (sports equipment gymnastics).
