The Department of Software Engineering and Automatics was established in 1964 as part of the Technical University of Moldova.

The department is one of the largest departments within The Technical University of Moldova with 105 staff members, and is responsible for four undergraduate study programs: “Automatics and Informatics”, “Information Technology”, “Information Security”, “Software Engineering” and three Masters study programs: “Information Technology”, “Information Technology for Business” and “Information Security”.

I. Research directions:

  • Methods and algorithms for tuning controllers to the complex object models.
  • Methods and tools for improving the management of information security.
  • Exploration, research and development of computer security.
  • Elaboration and research of the models and algorithms of efficient use of the resources of the computer networks.
  • Intelligent agent systems.
  • Exploratory and inferential analysis of data.
  • Statistical simulation techniques.

Laboratories have been setup in the following areas: “The Internet of Things”; “Integrated Control Systems”; “Mobile Robotic Systems”; “Measurement Transducers and Actuators”; “Security Management”; “Mixed Reality Technologies” etc.

1. Name: Models, algorithms and technologies for the control, optimization and security of the Cyber-Physical systems
Type of project: state program
Period: 2020-2024
Goal of the project: The aim of the project is to develop new technologies, models, methods and intelligent algorithms for the control and optimization of complex heterogeneous systems, towards the exploitation of resources and security of computer networks in cyber-physical systems with applications in industry / business / agriculture / education.

2. Name: Intelligent models for improving the training process.
Period: 2020-2021
Partners: Transylvania University of Brasov, Romania; Université Paris 13, France
Goal of the project: The project aims to facilitate research at the Technical University of Moldova in the field of Artificial Intelligence. The project focus is on combining the knowledge from cognitive psychology with the power of machine learning.

Goal of the project: PBLMD was a national, capacity building project that aimed to improve quality of teaching and learning methodologies and higher education programmers in Moldova while enhancing their relevance for the labour market and disadvantaged groups in society. 4. Name: Masters degree in the development, administration, management, protection of computer systems and information networks at enterprises from Moldova, Kazakhstan, Vietnam-LMPI.
Type of project: ERASMUS+ project.
Period: 2017-2019

Goal of the project: The LMPI project established Bachelors and Masters’ degrees for the protection of computer systems and networks in three Partner Countries: Vietnam, Moldova and Kazakhstan.

5. Name: Energy storage control system.
Type of project: R&D project.
Period: 2017-2018
Partners:  Durion GmbH, Germany. 
Goal of the project: Analysis of the energy characteristics of the Photovoltaic Panels (Volt-Amperica and Volt-Power) depending on the variation of the exogenous factors: the intensity of the illumination and the temperature. Elaboration of an intelligent algorithm (based on fuzzy techniques) to determine in real time the point of emission of the maximum power of the photovoltaic panel to the variation of exogenous factors.

Period: 2018, 2019, 2020
Partners:  Ovidius University of Constanta, Romania.
Goal of the project: The goal of the project is to enhance the cooperation with Virtual and Augmented Reality Research Laboratory (CERVA) from Ovidius University of Constanta. As a result of this cooperation there is one doctorate thesis in cotutela.

 7. Type of project: Program ERASMUS K107
Period: 2020-2022.
Partners:  University of Siegen, Department: Electrical Engineering – Computer Science, Faculty IV: Science and Technology.
The goal of the project: is to enhance the cooperation with the Department: Electrical Engineering – Computer Science from The University of Siegen,Germany, through mobilities for students and lecturers.

8. Name of project: Creation of the first university course in French-language with a reinforced company presence in the Republic of Moldova. (Création de la première formation universitaire francophone à présence renforcée en entreprise en République de Moldova).

Period: May 28 2018-May 28 2020.
Goal of the project: Establishment of the first French-speaking course with business placements in the Republic of Moldova and which addressed several areas: increasing the quality of education through the modernization of the curriculum, the use of innovative methods in the teaching, the use of student-centred methods from an action perspective, university-business collaboration,  the integration of university studies with student business placements, all of this converging towards improving the competitiveness of graduates and their better professional integration.

9. Name of project: Strengthening employability and professional integration in Romania and the Republic of Moldova. (Renforcement de l’employabilité et de l’insertion professionnelle en Roumanie et en République de Moldavie).
Type of project: Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
Period: 2019-2021.
Parteners: Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie, Technical University of Moldova, Agricultural State University of Moldova, University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest, Transilvania University of Brașov. 
Goal of the project: the creation of a platform for the benefit of students, universities and employers for Technical University of Moldova and Agricultural State University of Moldova.

 10. Name of project: Zero Waste for responsible ECO production and consumption (Zéro Gaspillage pour une production et consommation responsables en ECO).
Type of project: Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).
Period: January – December 2020.
Partners: Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie; Technical University of Moldova; University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj-Napoca, Romania; Roumanie – Université « Saint Cyrille et Méthode », Macédoine.
Goal of the project: contribution in the elimination of food waste and improvement of the health status of the population through education in responsible consumption and production.

III. Scientific domains of research

 Automatic control

  • Development of automatic control systems for the agrarian sector that permits monitoring online and controlling different parameters such as temperature and humidity.
  • Mathematical modelling of industrial processes;
  • Development of methods and algorithms for tuning controllers to complex object models.
  • Parametrical identification of industrial processes;
  • Developing software that implements control algorithms;
  • Design and elaboration of the functional prototype of an automatic controller incorporated in the models of universal industrial controllers or as specialized controllers, implemented on the microprocessors. This includes intelligent auto-tuning and adaptation procedures of dynamic tuning parameters according to the modification of properties of the control object. This in order to maintain the performance of the control of heterogeneous systems, from the fields of the industrial and agrarian sectors.

Network reliability

  • Developing new probabilistic models in distributed systems/networks reliability, but also developing new methods for calculating/evaluating reliability, analytical and numerical methods of the Monte-Carlo type with inferential statistical analysis of simulated data. All this to identify the most reliable network based on the same set of resources in the composition of the Networks.
  • Statistical simulation techniques.

Cyber security

  • Creation and capitalization of the resources of the PINFOSEC computer security polygon, including: creation of a platform and modules for experimentation /research/development for solutions of computer security in support of the Republic of Moldova needs (SECIM); elaboration of a system of models of computer security (SIMOSI).
  • Protection of the information with modified algorithms based on the diofantic equations.
  • Exploration, research and development of computer security.
  • Elaboration and research of the models and algorithms of efficient use of the resources of the computer networks.

Artificial intelligence

  • Intelligent agent systems.
  • Development of decision-making methods and algorithms based on intelligent agents.
  • Development of programming language for the intelligent agents, integrated with C / C ++, C #, Java.
  • Implementation of intelligent agents in virtual reality.
  • Exploratory and inferential analysis of data.


  • Studying the needs for personalized training in the Republic of Moldova and identifying solutions in information technology to improve the educational process based on this.
