On December 16, 2024, Dinu Țurcanu, Vice Rector for Digitalization at the Technical University of Moldova, held an extensive training session on cybersecurity for 48 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), participants in the initial training courses for officers at the “Ștefan cel Mare” Academy. The event took place at the invitation of Police Colonel Vitalie Moisei, further demonstrating the state institutions’ openness to collaboration and modernization in the face of digital challenges.
During the training, Dinu Țurcanu addressed in detail the increasing risks of cyberattacks, explaining the methods by which MAI employees can prevent and manage such incidents. The importance of continuous training in this field was emphasized to protect not only personal and institutional data but also the state’s critical infrastructure.
“We are in an era where the speed at which technology evolves brings tremendous opportunities but also immense risks. Cyberattacks are no longer isolated incidents; they represent a constant threat capable of destabilizing systems, compromising sensitive information, and affecting people’s daily lives.
It is essential that each of us understands that cybersecurity starts with education and awareness. A system is only as strong as its weakest point. That’s why your knowledge and the vigilance of each MAI employee are the barriers that can stop an attack before it causes damage.
Beyond technological solutions, the key lies in human preparation. Together, through continuous training, the exchange of best practices, and collaboration, we can build a safer digital environment for all. Thank you for your involvement, and I am honored to be part of this collective effort to protect the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and the state’s vital systems,” said Țurcanu.
The Technical University of Moldova supports initiatives that contribute to the country’s digital security. Through its academic expertise and direct involvement in training professionals from various fields, UTM and CYBERCOR demonstrate that they can be strategic partners in developing the essential skills needed for a modern digital society.
In addition to the theoretical presentations, Dinu Țurcanu captivated the audience with interactive simulations of cyberattacks, giving participants a practical perspective on how hackers operate and how vulnerabilities can be identified in real-time.
“Simulations are essential for understanding the complexity and dynamics of a cyberattack. Only through practical experience can we learn to respond quickly and effectively. These exercises prepare and give the necessary confidence to manage critical situations in the digital environment,” Țurcanu explained.
Cybersecurity training represents an important step in strengthening the collaboration between UTM and the MAI, providing officers with the necessary tools to face cyber challenges and successfully protect the integrity of digital systems.
Dinu Țurcanu expressed his gratitude to Police Colonel Vitalie Moisei for the initiative of integrating cybersecurity training into the MAI officer training program.
Mr. Țurcanu’s initiative is part of a series of activities dedicated to cybersecurity training, and UTM and CYBERCOR remain open to supporting such projects that add value to society as a whole.
