“UTM Names Cybersecurity Champions at ‘Students Cyber Battle’”

The Technical University of Moldova continues to actively contribute to the training and professional development of future IT specialists. On June 26, 2024, UTM hosted the “Students Cyber Battle” competition, dedicated to students passionate about cybersecurity.

Organized by CODWER Academy, in partnership with the Cyber Security Agency (ASC) and the “Cybercor” National Institute of Cybersecurity Innovations, with support from the Development Foundation of the Republic of Moldova, the “Students Cyber Battle” was designed as an intense Attack&Defense format duel. This competition tested the participants’ abilities to identify vulnerabilities, implement effective protection measures, and counteract cyber attacks. Teams, each consisting of two students, were challenged to test their limits in a simulated yet realistic and controlled environment.

Participants had access to the CODWER Academy Laboratory within FCIM-UTM, where they were challenged to attack adversaries’ infrastructures while defending their own systems. The first stage emphasized system exploration, vulnerability identification, and implementing protective measures for IT infrastructures. In the second stage, the challenges intensified, testing the participants’ technical and strategic skills even further.

On July 29, 2024, the Technical University of Moldova hosted the award ceremony for the winners of the competition. The evaluation committee members, renowned experts in cybersecurity—Dinu ȚURCANU, UTM Vice-Rector for Digitalization; Ludmila PECA, Director of the “Cybercor” National Institute of Cybersecurity Innovations; and Marius DUMITRAȘCU, Director of CODWER—applauded the winners for their exceptional knowledge and skills. Their remarkable performance showcased their talent, dedication, and passion for cybersecurity.
