Cybercor Training for Librarians at the Summer Academy: “Strengthening Professional and Personal Resilience Against Cyber Threats”

In today’s ever-evolving and constantly connected world, cybersecurity has become a central pillar essential for data protection and maintaining uninterrupted operations. Whether it’s a small enterprise or a global corporation, cyber threats are an omnipresent reality, making cybersecurity an absolute necessity.

Cybersecurity is not just about data protection; it is a fundamental foundation that upholds trust, efficiency, and operational continuity. In the digital era, nearly every aspect of daily life is interconnected and, therefore, vulnerable to cyber-attacks. From library borrowing records to financial information and strategic plans, all are potential targets for hackers, and a successful cyber-attack can have devastating consequences for any institution.

Investing in cybersecurity means creating an organizational culture where it is a constant priority. Training employees to recognize and avoid threats is just as important as implementing advanced technologies. Cybersecurity is not an issue that can be postponed or neglected! It is a vital component that ensures not only survival but also prosperity in a constantly changing digital landscape.

On July 18th, Mr. Dinu Țurcanu, UTM Vice-Rector for Digitalization and Strategic Coordinator of the “CYBERCOR” National Institute of Cybersecurity, was invited as a cybersecurity trainer for the 9th edition of the Summer Academy for Librarians themed “Strengthening Professional and Personal Resilience Against Cyber Threats.”

Recognizing librarians as messengers of modern society, the training activities brought together participants from 11 districts (Cantemir, Cahul, Ungheni, Ialoveni, Orhei, Taraclia, Sîngerei, Fălești, Drochia, Strășeni, Criuleni) and 2 municipalities (Chișinău and Bălți). This turnout was particularly gratifying as the knowledge imparted during the training is expected to reach citizens in these areas. Mr. Țurcanu emphasized in his welcome message that by acquiring the necessary knowledge and adopting appropriate practices, employees can significantly contribute to protecting information and maintaining the integrity of the systems they use.

The Technical University of Moldova, through the “Cybercor” National Institute of Cybersecurity Innovations, reaffirms its commitment to building a secure cyber society prepared for contemporary challenges. The training session, led by the Vice-Rector, focused on providing fundamental knowledge to face cyber threats, highlighting the importance of protecting personal data and raising awareness about cyber-attacks.

Through these educational initiatives, UTM and “Cybercor,” with support from the Moldova Development Foundation, the coordinator of the Google grant awarded to “Cybercor,” not only strengthen national security but also emphasize the critical role of cybersecurity education in developing a resilient digital society.

In this context, we extend our thanks to the organizing team of the 9th edition of the Summer Academy for Librarians and the trainers who made considerable efforts to transform theory into practice and provide high-quality training based on real and applicable examples.
