Have you ever wondered how to make cybersecurity both effective and fun? The “Tallinn Summer School” in Estonia provides the perfect answer. From July 7th to July 20th, 2024, ten enthusiastic students from the Technical University of Moldova — eight from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics, and two from the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications — along with their professor and Cybercor representative, Associate Professor Dr. Andrian PRISĂCARU, are immersing themselves in this unforgettable educational experience.
At the forefront of global digitalization, Estonia stands out as a leader in cybersecurity. The collaboration between The Citadel and UTM at the Summer School on cybersecurity, hosted by TalTech IT-teaduskond (School of IT), marks an auspicious beginning. The students had the chance to explore the TalTech campus and Tallinn’s old town, building lasting friendships and memories.
The first week of the summer school was packed with exciting activities:
- Monday: Campus tour and exploration of Tallinn’s old town.
- Tuesday: Cybersecurity lecture by Rain Ottis and a tour of the KGB Museum.
- Wednesday: Engaging discussions on cybersecurity and international relations with Dr. Adrian Venables and a screening of the film “Melchior the Apothecary.”

These activities are not just promising but truly fascinating! The best part is that the surprises keep coming. We are incredibly proud of our students, who show exceptional interest and active participation in all activities, reflecting their high level of preparation and desire to excel in this vital field. The partnership with TalTech and collaboration with international professionals provide our students with invaluable opportunities for learning and development.
As part of the agenda, the first introductory lecture on July 9, 2024, delivered by Professor Rain Ottis, offered students an in-depth look at essential aspects of cybersecurity, such as Identity (ID), Authentication, and Authorization. They learned about the Estonian identity card, a symbol of advanced digitalization, which includes functionalities like e-prescriptions and access to government services, all protected by advanced cryptography.
During the second lecture, “Estonian Cyber Security Since 2007,” participants were informed about the DDoS attacks from the Russian Federation and the cybersecurity measures implemented with NATO and EU assistance. This lecture emphasized the importance of education and training for cybersecurity specialists, a field in which UTM consistently aims to excel through its innovative programs.

UTM’s participation in the “Tallinn Summer School” in Estonia exemplifies its dedication to excellence in education and innovation in cybersecurity. A key player in this initiative is the “Cybercor” National Institute of Innovations in Cybersecurity, which fosters innovation and excellence in both theoretical and practical education. This institute prepares professionals to meet the sector’s challenges head-on. Through curriculum modernization and the development of cutting-edge training programs, Cybercor and UTM ensure top-tier cybersecurity education. This effort significantly contributes to protecting critical infrastructure and promoting a cyber-secure nation. UTM continues to play a pivotal role in training cybersecurity specialists, thereby enhancing the safety and protection of the global community.
The participation of the Republic of Moldova in the “Tallinn Summer School” is funded with the help of the Estonian Center for International Development (ESTDEV).
As we delve deeper into the world of cybersecurity, stay tuned for more exciting updates!
