The UTM Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, in partnership with UN Women Moldova, has successfully completed the first session of the “Gender Equality in STEM” Summer School. This initiative aimed to inspire and encourage high school students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Held from June 17-21, the Summer School offered participants a comprehensive experience, blending theoretical and practical sessions, networking activities, and inspirational visits to top companies. The primary goal of the project was to promote gender equality in STEM fields and provide students with a perspective on the career opportunities available in this dynamic and rewarding domain.

Over the course of the week, participants had the chance to explore various STEM topics, from programming and robotics to electrical engineering and telecommunications. The sessions were interactive and engaging, giving students the chance to ask questions and actively participate in the learning process.
One of the highlights of the Summer School was the visits to companies such as Moldcell, StarNet, and Gilat Satellite Networks Moldova – esteemed partners of FET-UTM. These visits gave students an authentic view of the professional environment, allowing them to discover the real working world of engineers and STEM specialists, interact with industry professionals, and learn about career prospects.

The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to these companies for their openness and involvement. Their support was essential for the success of this initiative, which aims to promote gender equality in STEM fields.

Today, June 21, 2024, the first session of the “Gender Equality in STEM” Summer School concluded with a diploma award ceremony. Participants were congratulated for their efforts and encouraged to continue their chosen paths, explore new opportunities, and contribute to advancing gender equality in STEM fields.
“We are extremely pleased with the results. We managed to create an inclusive and equitable educational and professional environment where students could explore the STEM field and discover their potential,” said Assoc. Prof., Dr. Lilia SAVA, Dean of FET-UTM.

The Summer School was organized as part of the “EVOLVE4GE – Accelerating Gender Equality by Empowering Women through Economic Opportunities, Combating Violence, and Gender-Sensitive Governance” project, funded by the European Union and implemented by UN Women Moldova. This project aims to promote gender equality and support women in reaching their professional potential by providing economic and educational avenues.

This event marks a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and equitable educational and professional environment. Through initiatives like these, the Technical University of Moldova and UN Women Moldova reaffirm their commitment to developing a new generation of engineers and STEM specialists capable of bringing positive changes to society. Continuing and expanding these efforts are essential for ensuring equitable and diverse representation in STEM fields, contributing to a more prosperous and just society.
