Eduard MONAICO Earns the Title of Habilitated Doctor in Physical Sciences

On June 21, 2024, Mr. Eduard MONAICO successfully defended an extensive synthesis thesis based on his published scientific works, titled: “MICRO- AND NANO-ENGINEERING OF SEMICONDUCTOR COMPOUNDS AND METALLIC STRUCTURES USING ELECTROCHEMICAL TECHNOLOGIES.” This achievement earned him the title of Habilitated Doctor in Physical Sciences.

The thesis was completed at the National Center for Material Study and Testing at the Technical University of Moldova, under the supervision of academician Ion TIGHINEANU, president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM).

The public defense committee, consisting of renowned researchers from Moldova and abroad, commended Mr. Monaico for his years of dedication, emphasizing the extensive scope and significant impact of his work in electrochemical nanostructuring of semiconductor-based materials.

Mr. Monaico’s scientific work, carried out over more than 20 years and synthesized in his thesis, opens new research and development perspectives in obtaining arrays of ordered pores in wide-bandgap semiconductor compounds, with essential applications in photonics and nanoelectronics. Another significant scientific problem addressed by Mr. Monaico involves creating hybrid metal/semiconductor structures by developing the “jump electrodeposition” mechanism. These innovative technologies are fundamental for practical applications within the research group coordinated by the new Habilitated Doctor, Eduard MONAICO.

The results presented in the synthesis thesis are reflected in 103 scientific works published by Mr. Monaico, including a monograph, an invited chapter in the second edition of the Encyclopedia of Condensed Matter Physics, a chapter in another monograph, an invited review article, 43 scientific articles indexed in Web of Science and SCOPUS databases, 19 articles presented at national and international scientific events, three articles in journals from the National Register of profile journals, three patents, and over 30 conference papers at international and national levels. All these significant contributions were achieved after obtaining his PhD in Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

The synthesis thesis was completed based on the postdoctoral project “Micro- and Nano-Engineering of Semiconductor Compounds Using Electrochemical Technologies for Electronic and Photonic Applications” for the years 2021-2022, with the code #21.00208.5007.15/PD.
