Roundtable Discussion on Financial and Technical Assistance for Young People and Women in the Agricultural Sector

On May 30, the branch library of the Scientific Library of the Technical University of Moldova, serving the Faculties of Agricultural, Forestry and Environmental Sciences (FȘASM) and Veterinary Medicine (FMV), hosted a roundtable discussion focused on providing financial and technical assistance to young people and women looking to start or grow businesses in the agricultural sector. Organized in partnership with the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation of IFAD Programs (UCIP IFAD) and FȘASM, the event welcomed representatives from UCIP IFAD, faculty members, and FȘASM students. It also featured the launch of two new books.

The dialogue began with welcome messages from Associate Professor Dr. Sergiu Popa, Dean of FȘASM; Iurie Ușurelu, Director of UCIP IFAD; and Viorica Lupu, Director of the Scientific Library of UTM. The speakers underscored the vital role of informational resources in the educational, research, and practical processes within agricultural sciences. They also emphasized the close collaboration between UCIP IFAD and FȘASM and the openness to exploring new forms of cooperation.

The main goal of the event was to inform final-year agricultural students about the opportunities offered by UCIP IFAD for starting businesses in the Republic of Moldova. Magdalena Rusnac-Frăsineanu, a consultant for gender equality and social inclusion at UCIP IFAD, presented the financial and technical products available to students and the business prospects in Moldova supported by UCIP IFAD. Her presentation sparked considerable interest among participants, leading to a lively Q&A session where students sought further details.

A significant highlight of the event was the launch of two valuable books for the agricultural community and academia. The authors themselves presented these works, offering detailed descriptions and underlining their importance for both the agricultural sector and academic circles.

Andrei Gumovschi, Ph.D. in agricultural sciences and Associate Professor, discussed his book “The Farmer’s Manual for Field Crops,” describing the main aspects. He explained how the book provides farmers with essential information on agricultural practices for field crop production, covering cultivation methods and techniques, agricultural systems, crop optimization, and quality assessment of fieldwork.

Similarly, Mihail Vronschih, Dr. habil., and University Professor, presented his work, “Climate Change and the Development of Harmful Species in Agricultural Agroecosystems.” He addressed the impact of climate change on agricultural crops and the development of harmful species in agricultural ecosystems. Vronschih emphasized the importance of understanding these issues for developing effective crop protection strategies and adapting to climate change.

The authors brought significant value to the event through their presentations, captivating the audience with relevant information and valuable insights into agricultural challenges and solutions. The intellectual and cognitive impact of the event was further highlighted by a generous donation of books to the library, including manuals, monographs, and practical guides published under the auspices of UCIP IFAD. This donation will enrich the library’s resources and enhance the academic experience of agricultural students and faculty.

The roundtable discussion was an important event that contributed to promoting entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector and supporting young people and women who wish to start or develop a business in this field.
