On May 17, 2024, the Technical University of Moldova marked a significant milestone during the Ad-Hoc Scientific Seminar with the defense of Mrs. Rodica SIMINIUC’s Dr. habil. thesis in Engineering Sciences. Titled “Exploratory Analysis of Nutritional Security in the Republic of Moldova” and developed under the guidance of Dr. habil. Rodica STURZA, a distinguished professor and corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the thesis made an invaluable contribution to understanding and addressing one of the country’s most pressing issues.
Mrs. Rodica SIMINIUC’s research introduces an innovative approach to a national priority – food security, focusing on several essential objectives aimed at improving public health. These include conducting a retrospective analysis of nutritional security in the country, developing a national Healthy Food Basket, and assessing the economic accessibility of food baskets. A standout aspect of the thesis is the creation of the Health Nutrition Assistant (HN Assistant) application and nutritional assessment software designed for nutrition students, facilitating informed and mindful food choices. These tools for personalized nutritional management have the potential to enhance consumers’ quality of life and promote healthier lifestyles.

Mrs. Siminiuc’s findings carry substantial weight, making a meaningful contribution to tackling nutritional security issues in the Republic of Moldova. Her research has been validated and shared through participation in about 26 international scientific conferences and the publication of 38 scientific papers, including articles in esteemed Web of Science and Scopus databases. Additionally, her work has resulted in securing 10 invention patents. The practical implications of her research are pivotal, influencing the indexing of specific social payments and shaping social and health policies.
The thesis was developed within the Department of Food and Nutrition of the UTM Faculty of Food Technology, under the postdoctoral grant “Contributions to Eradicating Nutritional Diseases Associated with Gluten Consumption.” It received unanimous praise with an “Excellent” rating from renowned experts in the field at the UTM Scientific Seminar – Dr. habil.
