A recent study trip to Germany by a Moldovan delegation led by Carolina NOVAC, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Energy, marked an important step towards strengthening international cooperation in the energy sector. Dr. Dumitru BRAGA, Dean of the Faculty of Energetics and Electrical Engineering (FEIE) at the Technical University of Moldova, was also part of the delegation, adding academic insight to the discussions.
The visit provided a valuable platform for exchanging experiences and exploring collaboration opportunities in the field of energy transition. Over the course of five days (April 14-19), the delegation participated in a series of meetings with relevant German institutions, including the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) Bank, the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), the municipalities of Mannheim and Stuttgart, the company “MVV Energie AG”, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate Protection, and Energy of the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Climate and Energy Agencies of the city of Stuttgart and the Schwarzwald-Baar-Heuberg region, the agro-photovoltaic parks Donaueschingen-Aasen (Next2Sun) and “Blankenhornsberg”, the bioenergy village Bräunlingen (Palmhof), the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, and other renowned research institutes.

Discussions focused on topics essential to the Republic of Moldova, such as:
The energy transition and progress achieved by the parties: analysis of Germany’s strategies as a global leader in decarbonization and the challenges encountered along the way.
Ongoing projects and collaboration prospects: identification of common areas of interest for bilateral collaboration in research and development projects, implementation of sustainable energy solutions, and human resources training;
Efficient solutions for centralized heating systems: identification of efficient solutions for supplying centralized heating systems with energy from renewable sources;
Green hydrogen: discussions on opportunities and challenges related to the production and use of green hydrogen as a clean energy source of the future;
Financing instruments and investment attraction: research on various financial instruments and mechanisms for attracting investments to facilitate the implementation of green energy projects.

Dr. Dumitru BRAGA’s participation contributed to consolidating the relationship between FEIE-UTM and higher education and research institutions in Germany, paving the way for enhanced international collaboration, curriculum development, and joint events in the energy sector.
The Moldovan delegation, including representatives from “Termoelectrica” JSC, the National Center for Sustainable Energy, “CET-Nord” JSC, and the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, facilitated the exchange of best practices and expertise crucial for modernizing the energy sector in the Republic of Moldova.
