On April 20, 2024, the Technical University of Moldova buzzed with excitement as nearly 500 physics enthusiasts gathered to showcase their talent and knowledge at the 13th edition of the “In Memoriam Mihai Marinciuc” Physics Competition. The event paid homage to the brilliance of Mihai Marinciuc, a renowned professor from the Department of Physics at the UTM Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications.
Representing 55 high schools and gymnasiums across the country, the young competitors demonstrated impeccable preparation. Their competitive spirit was encouraged by UTM Vice-Rector, Prof. Vasile TRONCIU, PhD; Tamara CURTESCU-MARINCIUC, Director of the ICAR Public Organization; and the deans of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, Assoc. Prof. Lilia SAVA, PhD, and Assoc. Prof. Spiridon RUSU, PhD in Physics.
The results reflected the talent, diligence and hard work of the students and the teachers who guided and supported them. The winners received medals, as well as thunderous applause.
Among the top 15 high schools, the institutions that stood out were IPÎLT “Orizont” from Durlești, IPLT “Spiru Haret” from Chișinău, and IPLTR “Aristotel” from the same city. The competition cup was awarded to “Orizont” Theoretical High School for obtaining the highest number of medals. Beyond academic achievement, the competition highlighted remarkable talented individuals, demonstrating that perseverance and passion for physics are key in reaching success in this field.
