On April 2nd, the Technical University of Moldova celebrated the Foreign Languages Week with a lively roundtable discussion titled “Symbolism of Romanian Traditions”, organized by the Department of Foreign Languages under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Svetlana CATERENCIUC. In a warm and lively ambiance, international students seized the opportunity to showcase their communication skills in the Romanian language and explore the local culture and traditions.
With each presentation, the participants offered a fresh perspective on Romanian traditions and customs. Students from China and Israel captivated the audience with insightful discussions on the beauty and diversity of Romanian culture and folklore.
From traditional costumes and Mărțișor to spring festivities, Moldovan wines, and Chinese tea, various topics were explored during the fascinating journey through Romanian heritage. These presentations facilitated an authentic cultural exchange, strengthening intercultural ties and promoting diversity as an essential value in higher education.
The remarkable efforts of international students from the compensatory year group LRS-2318 and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine group MV-233 were wholeheartedly supported by their non-native hosts from the Faculty of Design group DTP-232, who provided a friendly environment for the event.
Wang KEFAN from China shared her enthusiastic insights into the intricate beauty of Moldovan traditional attire, while Elena CERENEI and Evghenii BOBRÎȘ, non-native students from the Faculty of Design, contributed with valuable details about traditional motifs and regional costume diversity.
Yassin VESAM and Aunalla BASIL from Israel shared the legend and significance of Martisor as a symbol of spring and hope, while Duan MENGTING, Yi JINGNAN, and Liang JINYU from China delved into the rich history of Moldovan winemaking and its diverse grape varieties.
Milawi MOHAMMAD from Israel spoke on Moldovan springtime traditions, while Zhou WENSHEN from China concluded the program with a fascinating presentation on the cultural significance of Chinese tea ceremonies.
The event provided an opportunity for cultural exploration and appreciation, while also paying tribute to diversity and intercultural dialogue by bridging the gap between East and West. The collective efforts and dedication of the participants, along with the professionalism of the organizers from the Department of Foreign Languages at UTM, ensured the successful completion of this event, which proved to be a memorable experience for all attendees, as well as proof of the essential role of foreign languages in promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding. Such initiatives encourage the exchange of knowledge and experiences, fostering understanding and mutual respect among different cultures.
