The UTM Vice-Rector Dinu Țurcanu and Secretary of State Mihai Lupașcu discuss the importance of Cybersecurity on the ‘Bună Dimineaţa la TV Moldova1’ talk show

The topic of digital security and its key role in the developmental trajectory of this country was once again brought up at the “Bună Dimineaţa la TV Moldova1” talk show – the UTM Vice-Rector, Dinu Țurcanu, and the Secretary of State, Mihai Lupașcu discussed the importance of cybersecurity in the Republic of Moldova.

The guests expounded on the reasons for making cybersecurity a top priority on the agenda of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, the imperative for a proactive approach in addressing cyber threats, and the critical importance of safeguarding the state’s digital infrastructure.

Mr. Țurcanu used this opportunity to make an announcement of the upcoming event on February 9th – the “Moldova CYBERSECURITY Forum.” On this occasion, the Government of the Republic of Moldova will inaugurate the National Cyber Security Agency and the ‘Cybercor’ National Institute for Cybersecurity Innovations. This momentous move marks a historic milestone and underscores the authorities’ commitment to enhancing the country’s cybersecurity.

This initiative is the result of sustained efforts from cybersecurity specialists who have diligently worked to prepare for the launch of the National Agency and the ‘Cybercor’ National Institute for Cybersecurity Innovations. Vice-Rector Dinu Țurcanu noted that the event scheduled for February 9th will serve as a platform for professionals and enthusiasts in the field to learn about the state’s latest cybersecurity developments. Attendees will have the chance to engage in discussions with cybersecurity experts from both the Republic of Moldova and abroad.

Why are these institutions necessary?

“We’re reaching out to experts actively working in this field and asking them to share their best practices, our job being to put those into action. These institutions will aid in the retraining of all officials in the field of cybersecurity. At this Forum, we aim to highlight our collective desire for ‘Cyber Health.’ Currently, we’re in the process of updating the curricula in higher education for Cybersecurity and creating informative guides for students and professionals alike.”

Secretary of State, Mr. Mihai Lupașcu, stated:

“In the upcoming launch of the Forum, our goal is to introduce two pivotal institutions in the Cybersecurity domain – the National Agency for Cybersecurity and the ‘Cybercor’ National Institute for Cybersecurity Innovations. Given the rapid evolution in this field, we cannot afford to wait for a generation to take necessary steps. Hybrid threats are a prevalent concern, and Moldova is not alone in facing these challenges. Indeed, we require additional cyber resources to facilitate the digitalization of Moldova. Therefore, Cybersecurity should be regarded as an integral part of our National Security.”

For those interested in participating in the event, Vice-Rector for Digitalization, Mr. Țurcanu, and Secretary of State, Mr. Lupașcu, encourage all professionals in the field, individuals concerned with national security, or those simply intrigued by the concept of a secure digital environment, to register through the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSejCWdYg5LLHNHor82fDJ9PKcFosVp0rWsSfH6ic_q9_64-6w/viewform
