In 2023, Prof. Oleg LUPAN, PhD, the head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering at the UTM Faculty of Computers, Informatics, and Microelectronics, has once again earned global recognition. Mr. Lupan has been included in the prestigious “Top 2%” worldwide ranking of the most renowned scientists. The title, awarded by Stanford University (USA) and ELSEVIER publications, stands as a testament to Professor Lupan’s consistent excellence in the fields of applied physics, nanotechnologies, nano-sciences, physics, and astronomy.
Over a remarkable career that spans more than three decades, Professor Lupan has continually contributed to scientific research on a global scale. His scientific publications, already ranked in the TOP 1% and TOP 0.1% globally for the most cited works according to Web of Science, attest to his remarkable impact in the worldwide scientific community.
After completing both undergraduate and doctoral programs at UTM, Professor Lupan continued his academic journey with post-doctoral research at CNRS in France, the largest scientific research center in the EU, and at UCF in the USA. This enriched his expertise in areas like nanotechnologies and biomedical engineering. He has been actively involved in diverse university and research centers globally, often invited as a guest lecturer to esteemed institutions such as PSL University in Paris, CAU University in Germany, and UCF University in the USA.
As the head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering at UTM, Professor Lupan played a pivotal role in organizing the activities of the Center for Nanotechnologies and Nanosensors in 2018. In 2020, he took the leadership of the MIB Department. Under his guidance, a considerable number of scholars, including Ph.D. holders like Vasile CREȚU, Vasile POSTICA, Nicolai ABABII, Nicolae MAGARIU, and other young researchers, are currently building their scientific and educational careers at UTM, and fostering collaborations with renowned international educational institutions.
Professor Lupan has strengthened UTM’s international relationships through collaborations with educational and scientific centers worldwide. His efforts have significantly contributed to enhancing the image of the Technical University of Moldova globally and promoting national science internationally. UTM students have the opportunity to acquire advanced knowledge in biomedical engineering, nanotechnologies, and semiconductor nanodevices, as well as join a globally recognized research team under the guidance of Professor Oleg Lupan.
In 2023, Professor Lupan took a firm stance in favor of knowledge accessibility by publishing all his works in an Open Access format. This commitment actively contributes to the widespread dissemination of knowledge within the global scientific community. Under his leadership, the UTM Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering is integral to ensuring the educational process in programs such as Applied Electronics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies, and Biomedical Engineering, for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels.
Through his extensive experience and accumulated knowledge throughout his career, Prof. Dr. habil. Oleg Lupan stands as an inspirational mentor for young researchers and students. He advocates for academic excellence, actively contributing to the advancement of knowledge in his areas of expertise.
