“Empowering Change”: UTM Inspires and Transforms

Today, on September 14th, representatives from the Technical University of Moldova were invited to engage in a dialogue with minors at the Goian Penitentiary as part of the fourth session of the “Empowering Change” project.

Dinu Țurcanu, the Vice-Rector for Digitalization at the Technical University of Moldova, captured the attention of the young inmates by presenting the impact of engineering, as well as the educational opportunities offered by UTM. By posing the philosophical question, “Did you know that the seven wonders of the world are engineering creations?”, the Vice-Rector piqued their curiosity and encouraged openness and trust.

“At UTM, young individuals with ambitious goals will undoubtedly find a platform for their growth! We have the highest number of government-funded study positions, and 88% of our students are employed and earning within the first 3 months of their studies – unparalleled in the professional market. In other words, UTM provides a vast arena for self-expression, including within its centers of excellence – ZIPhouse, Tekwill, FabLab – all open for zealous, competitive, and progress-driven youth,” stated Dinu Țurcanu.

Moreover, the Vice-Rector highlighted the level of modernization of the University’s infrastructure, motivating and inspiring students to exceed their limits and strive for even greater accomplishments.

Radu Melnic, the Secretary responsible for the UTM Admission Commission and the Director of the College at the Technical University of Moldova, introduced the 11 faculties at UTM and highlighted the advantages of choosing them in order to get prepared for the professions of the future. Additionally, he emphasized that the products created by students receive international acclaim.

A noteworthy moment of the event was the unveiling of the University’s mini-production factories – centers that shape experts, which contribute to the development of Moldova’s economy. Natalia Șestenco, Deputy Director of the Center for Career Guidance and Counseling at the Technical University of Moldova, inspired the young participants. She highlighted the importance of effort and dedication in achieving desired success, underlining that the Professions of the Future are attainable for those who pursue their dreams with determination and ambition.

The session was marked by enthusiasm, curiosity, and a genuine passion for science. Students from the Technical University of Moldova actively participated, engaging with robots and assisting young inmates in testing their skills in this fascinating field.

The project is carried out with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Moldova and the ADEPT Association.
