On May 19-20, the students of UTM participated in TechBridge – the first Government Hackathon “Digitalization of Public Services”, organized by the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization of Romania and the e-Governance Agency of the Republic of Moldova (AGE). The project was fully supported by the vice-rector for Digitalization, Dinu Țurcanu. The participating teams were mentored by the head of the ICT Department, Vasile Chetroi.
The competition was an excellent opportunity for the participants to express their creative and innovative spirit through generating ideas and solutions aimed at improving the efficiency of public administrations and the digitalization of services. The students from UTM won the 1st and 2nd places, and the team from Romania took the 3rd place. The involvement of the vice-rector Dinu Țurcanu demonstrated his commitment to the digitalization of public services and the growth of young talents in the technological field.
The 1st place winner – MTeam, made up of students from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics developed an innovative solution for collective petitions (e-Petitions), while the Starlab came up with a solution for digitalizing the process of working out road accidents amicably.
The 2nd place winner – PRASADA team, made up of students from the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics, put forward creative solutions for the digitalization of the human resources management process through the M_HR application. Additionally, the BeeNear team was awarded 3rd place for their innovative approach to the digitalization of the Register of Green Spaces.
Digitalization is essential in all fields of activity, and the future of public services must be built with a focus on digital services. Among the challenges of the hackathon were:
– the development of a digital solution for searching for information on government websites through a chatbot;
– the implementation of a digital solution for electronic auction of public property goods;
– the digitalization of patients’ medical records through the MED CARD application.
During the two days, the 7 teams, made up of 40 participants from both countries who are passionate about technology and digital approaches, were guided through training sessions supported by experts in the field of digitalization of government services.
The hackathon turned out to be a unique experience, with technical challenges, workshops and networking opportunities.
