“EARTH ROVER: Innovation Challenge – 2022” Student Competition: Mobile Robotics

During December 12-16, 2022, the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics of the Technical University of Moldova, in collaboration with its strategic partners “AROBS Software Chișinău” Ltd., “ICG Engineering” Ltd., “StarNet” Ltd., and with the organizational support of the “Hard & Soft” Student Center of Technical Creativity, organized the 11th edition of the “Earth Rover: Innovation Challenge – 2022” Student Competition – a contest in the field of mobile robotics, environmental monitoring, IoT technologies and services.

     The competition accepted 6 teams made up of FCIM students from the Robotics and Mechatronics, Computers and Networks, Automatics and Informatics, Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies, Applied Informatics and Information Technologies study programs.

     According to the established requirements, the projects were to be developed strictly during the contest (3 days), based on a collection of devices provided by the organizers. The theme of the project should be closely related to the given topic: “A clean environment – a healthy life”.

     The process of project development was carried out in the laboratories and technical creativity rooms of FCIM. The final results were presented by the team members on December 16, 2022.

     The event was was managed by the Organizing Committee: president Dumitru CIORBĂ, and members Victor ABABII, Radu MELNIC, Viorel CĂRBUNE and Silvia MUNTEANU.

     According to the assessment results provided by the evaluation team, made up of the committee president, FCIM dean Dumitru Ciorbă, and members Mihai GORGOS – director of “AROBS Software Chișinău” company, Nicoleta STAVILĂ – “ICG Engineering” manager, Nicolae LEPODATU – manager of “StarNet” company, and Viorica SUDACEVSCHI – head of DIIS, the awards were distributed as follows:

1st place Diploma and Prize: “Best Team” – M. Bruma, I. Fortuna, V. Ionița and F. Stavriu, who developed a mobile system for monitoring ecological parameters in real time, processing information and delivering it to users;

2nd place Diploma and Prize: “Luminița 777” – D. Tirche, O. Scripnic, T. Maslova, who presented a system based on an autonomous mobile platform, which performs turns in spaces with obstacles and gathers information about the state of the environment;

3rd place Diploma and Prize: “Force RM” – V. Guțu, V. Corcodel, C. Cebotarenco, N. Drumea, who came up with the idea of a mobile robot system for automatic planting of seeds in the soil;

Participation Diploma and Prize: “Prasada” – A. Cozlovschi, T. Deviza, G. Turețchi, who described a system for intelligent waste sorting;

Participation Diploma and Prize: “CybSquad” – C. Pîrlea, V. Coda, C. Lai, A. Carauș, who developed a system for environment monitoring, applicable in the field of health, which provides information for planning sports activities;

Participation Diploma and Prize: “CIRCLE” – M. Caciura, A. Gîrșcan, O. Ovcearenco, A. Rusu, who presented a system for real-time environment monitoring.

     UTM rector, Prof., Dr. habil. Viorel BOSTAN attended the Award Ceremony in order to congratulate the students who took part in the competition, noting: “All of you are already winners for choosing the Technical University of Moldova to become Engineers!”
