Discovering the art of building the culture of living together through Erasmus+ project “ART UNITES US”

“Art Unites Us” is the international Erasmus+ Youth Project hosted by Harran University, Şanlıurfa, Turkey in the period 22-30 November 2022. Being approved by the Turkish National Agency, the project was funded by Erasmus+ Youth Workers Exchanges program and welcomed 35 participants from Italy, Germany, Republic of Moldova, Turkey and Ukraine with the aim to create awareness among youth workers on migration, migrants, refugees and arts.

Technical University of Moldova (UTM) was represented in this project by 7 students: Gatman Ion, Marandici Daniel, Șarapova Ana, Popescu Paula, Cazacu Constantin, Kaluian Maksym and Slobozianu Maria, whose mission was to raise the awareness among university students, to obtain cultural experience, break stereotypes and better understand the lifestyles of those who face financial difficulties especially refugees. All participants were encouraged to present the artistic and social aspects of their countries. Cultural pluralism and reduction of discrimination formed the core values or the foundation on which the entire project was built.

Event agenda included various interesting activities such cultural evenings, presentations of all participating countries, Workshop Street Art guided by Mr. Federico Vullo, an artistic activity meant to express through stencil art the problems of refugee families following the conflict in Syria, the workshop of traditional arts from Urfa (drawing on water, embroidery, pyrography), rounds of energizing games, guided tours in Göbekli Tepe, Balıklıgöl, Sanliurfa City Center, visits and acts of charity for refugee families from Syria etc. We are all so different here but this is exactly what unites us here” mentioned Dr. Hakan Gülerce, project coordinator.

The project was organized by the young people members of the Universal Youth Group together with Dr. Hakan Gülerce, Erasmus+ and the Department of Migration Policy and Research in Harran University and involved 5 organizations: Münster University – Germany, Peryslava State Pedagogical University – Ukraine, Ohana Association – Italy, Technical University of Moldova, and Harran University – Turkey (host of the event).
