National Competition – Mobile Systems & IoT Services “Earth Rover: Innovation Challenge, 2021”

On December 9, 2021, the 9th edition of the Mobile Systems and IoT Services Student Contest “EARTH ROVER: Innovation Challenge – 2021” has started. The competition was organized by the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics of the Technical University of Moldova.

The event was launched ONLINE, in the presence of the members of the Committee of Judges: assoc. prof., Dr. Dumitru CIORBĂ, dean of FCIM; representatives of the companies “AROBS Moldova” and “IGC Engineering”; assoc. prof., Dr. Viorica SUDACEVSCHI, head of IIS Department, and assoc. prof., Dr. Ion FIODOROV, head of ISA Department.

Due to the pandemic, this year’s edition is attended only by teams made up of TUM representatives. The 12 teams registered for the “EARTH ROVER: Innovation Challenge – 2021” consist of students from the “Computers and Information Networks” program (5 teams), “Robotics and Mechatronics” program (4 teams) and “Automatics and Informatics” program (3 teams).

The competition focuses on the integration of Mobile Systems and Internet of Things technologies, aiming to train as many young people passionate about robotics, mechatronics, automation, electronics and programming as possible. The contest intends to stimulate and develop creativity and innovation, providing the engineers of the future with opportunities for improvement through challenges that will allow them to implement their ideas and skills.

The objective of the contest is to design and implement a model of a system using a set of devices offered by the organizers. The components are utilized to form the core of the system, while the mechanical and electromechanical part of the project is determined by the complexity and ingenuity of the ideas of the participants.

The competition is scheduled for December 9-11, 2021, and is part of the series of events planned by FCIM for the promotion and education in the field of design and programming of Robotic and Mechatronic systems. This is a first step towards the integration of young engineers within the Industry 4.0 strategy. The contest will end on December 11, at 12PM, with a video and an ONLINE presentation in which the team members will display their ideas.
