TUM & Universidade de Coimbra: premises for the development of the scientific and educational field

The Technical University of Moldova and the Universidade de Coimbra in Portugal have signed a collaboration agreement for the consolidation of their partnership in the scientific and educational field.

On 18/10/2021, an online meeting on the Zoom platform was organized and attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Portugal – Alexei Cracan, and the advisor of the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Portugal – Petru Butucel. Coimbra University was represented by the vice-rector João Nuno Calvão da Silva, the rector’s adviser – Silvia Dias and the Head of the International Relations Department – Liliana Moreira.

In his speech, Viorel Bostan, the rector of the Technical University of Moldova, introduced the TUM team who assisted at the meeting: vice-rector for Informatization, Partnerships, Institutional Image and Communication – Dinu Țurcanu, vice-rector for Financial Affairs and International Relations – Daniela Pojar, and the head of the International Relations Service – Cristina Efremov. In the context of establishing the priorities of the bilateral cooperation, the rector emphasized the necessity to promote the scientific sector, an important aspect of which is the initiation of an effective exchange of experience and the transfer of best practices in research. The rector Viorel Bostan also mentioned that TUM, being the only technical higher education institution in the Republic of Moldova, fundamentally and compulsorily participates in research.

The prospects of external cooperation in this area were acknowledged and appreciated by the representatives of the University of Coimbra in Portugal. In this regard, vice-rector João Nuno Calvão da Silva underlined the history and vast popularity of TUM, which, in his opinion, is an impeccable platform for the development of cooperative relations. The rector’s adviser, Silvia Dias, reiterated the need for collaboration in the field of research, noting that this partnership will increase the exchange of scientific and technical information.

On behalf of TUM, the rector Viorel Bostan expressed his openness for collaboration and development of institutional aptitudes, stating that the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two universities will be highly beneficial.

The meeting concluded with the agreement on the actions to be taken in the partnership between the universities, including the facilitation of mobility programs for Bachelor, Master and Doctoral students, as well as for the scientific-didactic staff, and the collaboration within the training process, research, exchange of information and instructional-methodical materials.

Concurrently, the rector of TUM opted for the initiation of training programs with a Double Degree and for the involvement in the mobilities within the ERASMUS+ Program, TUM already having a considerable amount of experience in this regard.

The collaboration with the University of Coimbra in Portugal represents a very important aspect in the process of accelerating the international relevance of TUM, which focuses on extending all forms of cooperation, facilitating the exchange of experience and the embracement of new directions of capitalization of the scientific and research field.
