ZIPhouse: Fashion Hackathon. Special Edition

On Friday, October 8, 2021, the Center of Excellence and Acceleration in Design and Technologies “ZIPhouse” within the Technical University of Moldova launched the Fashion Hackathon – Special Edition: a call for local brands willing to join the campaign “Fighting Stigma With Style” and to create a line of clothes suited for people with disabilities.

This project is a continuation of the special edition of Fashion Hackathon focused on the subject of inclusion, a competition in which 20 young designers from TUM’s Faculty of Textiles and Polygraphy, the Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts, the State Pedagogical University “Ion Creangă” were challenged to create graphic clothing collections suitable for people with disabilities. The designers worked side by side with women and girls with disabilities, integrating all needs identified with their help in the sketches drawn by the participants, while including natural fabrics, simple cuts and seams, and dynamic colors. Consequently, 5 graphic clothing collections have been created and adjusted to the needs of people with disabilities, the top 3 of which are to be produced by local brands and marketed nationally by the end of this year.

The brands selected following this call will receive graphic sketches and a production budget from “ZIPhouse” and UNFPA Moldova. Subsequently, the collections will be directed for sale to the community of people with disabilities in Moldova.

This project is carried out by ZIPHOUSE Fashion Hub in partnership with UNFPA Moldova, the Employers’ Association of Light Industry (APIUS) and the MOTIVATION Association of Moldova.
