TUM lecturer Eugenia COVALIOV represented the Republic of Moldova in the final of the contest “My thesis in 180 seconds” in Paris

Eugenia COVALIOV, PhD in Science, University Lecturer at the Faculty of Food Technology of the Technical University of Moldova, represented the Republic of Moldova at the 7th edition of the international final of the competition “My thesis in 180 seconds”, held on Thursday, September 30, 2021, in Paris, France.

Ms. Covaliov was declared the best Francophone scientific performer of the year 2021 in the Republic of Moldova for her ability to present her doctoral research topic, “Les modifications biochimiques et technologiques des noix au cours du traitement et du stockage” – “Biochemical and technological changes of nuts during processing and storage”, in the national final of the competition “My doctoral thesis in 180 seconds”, organized in May 2021 by the University Agency of Francophonie in Central and Eastern Europe (AUF ECO) and the French Institute of Romania (IFR).

The grand international final of the competition, hosted by Studio 104 of the Maison de la Radio et de la Musique in Paris, brought together 24 young PhD students from Belgium, Benin, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Central Europe Consortium (Poland, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia), Egypt, France, Gabon, Haiti, Mauritius, Ireland, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Moldavia, Quebec, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Romania, Senegal, Switzerland and Tunisia, of which Switzerland, Senegal, Benin and the Democratic Republic of Congo were awarded.

The international final was held according to the same principle as the national competitions: the 24 doctoral students presented their research topics in front of a diverse and uninitiated audience, in French, in an accessible and engaging way, but most importantly, in 180 seconds, with a single slide and no other resources.

The competition is a very good means of promoting science and familiarizing the general public with research fields. Simultaneously, the contest is a great exercise for young researchers to refine their communication skills.

TUM congratulates its representative Eugenia CIOVALIOV for the excellent performance at the francophone contest!
