The Technical University of Moldova takes a firm stance nationally in the prestigious ranking of citations of scientific publications Webometrics – “TRANSPARENT RANKING: Top Universities by Citations in Top Google Scholar profiles” (http://www.webometrics.info/en/transparent ).
With 13,128 active citations, according to the Webometrics ranking (out of the total number of over 58,000 citations of the Technical University of Moldova), TUM holds an important position in the library of academic materials and scientific publications – the Google Scholar platform, the ranking registering only 4 higher education institutions in the country:
- Technical University of Moldova
- State University of Moldova
- “Nicolae Testemiţanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Republic of Moldova
- “Alecu Russo” State University of Bălţi
The inclusion of TUM in this global ranking of citations of scientific publications is used as a priority criterion in the implementation of Top Webometrics of universities annually, in January and July. The ranking of citations on this platform includes about 5000 educational institutions from around the world and aims to evaluate their scientific research activity.
The transparency parameter remained unchanged and is calculated as in the previous ranking of January 2021: the calculation methodology is based on collecting citations from the first top 210 public profiles of each university, to allow the independent comparison of the number of employees of the institution, with subsequent exclusion of the top 20 profiles in the list to improve representativeness. For the other 190 profiles per university, the number of citations is added up, and the institutions are ordered in descending order. The data used for the ranking were collected between June 20-24, 2021, and this version consists only of Top Records (citations > 1000).
The Google Academic Top is made by the “Webometrics Ranking of World Universities”, at the initiative of Cybermetrics Lab – a research group of the Higher Council for Scientific Research of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, which also has the initiative to launch the Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities. Google Scholar is a search engine that delivers digital versions of scientific publications in full-text volume: articles, books, textbooks issued from academic and research environments.
