Given that the Foreign Languages Week was launched in March, it was only natural for the event to pay homage to the traditional Mărțișor. The project was organized and conducted online under the auspices of the Department of Foreign Languages, TUM.
The legend of Mărțișor was the main topic of the first round table organized on the first day of the Foreign Languages Week at TUM, marked with the title “Symbolism of Romanian traditions”. The students of the Faculty of Food Technology exhibited mărțișoare embodying a young man and a young woman in national costumes, as an acknowledgement of the celebration of Mărțișor in the present times and its symbolism in the past, based on the custom in Dacian times.
The students noted to be delighted by the old saying that if you make a wish while hanging the mărțișor on a tree, it will be fulfilled, and for this reason, they honor the tradition each time the end of March approaches by tying the “small talisman of luck” to a branch, for receiving health and well-being throughout the year.
Several customs and traditions of spring were reflected in the students’ presentations, including beautiful stories and legends told in the Romanian language by the students of the Russian speaking group TMAP – 202 and from the group of foreign students (Turkey) from the Faculty of Food Technology, guided by their coordinator, univ. assistant Valentina CUCIUC.
