An IT and Cyber Security laboratory will be opened at the Technical University of Moldova, within the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (FET). The fundamental objective is to develop a specialized laboratory, equipped with state-of-the-art appliances (MikroTik & Ubiquiti), but also to launch the MikroTik Academy and Ubiquiti Academy at TUM, FET.
The laboratory provides training for the ICT staff from organizations and agencies in the Republic of Moldova; but also for FET students; as well as authorized training at MikroTik Academy and authorized training at Ubiquiti Academy.
The matters were discussed and agreed upon during the meeting held yesterday, February 4, between the Rector of TUM, Prof., Dr. Viorel BOSTAN, the Vice-Rector Dinu ȚURCANU, the Dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications, Associate Professor, Dr. Pavel NISTIRIUC, and the IT-LAB company Director Alexei CIOBAN, FET graduate.
As partners and supporters of the activity of the ICT department of TUM, we consider it necessary for future FET graduates to maintain the continuity of these partnerships between academia and the private sector, said Mr. Alexei Cioban.
The Rector of TUM noted that “the contribution and involvement of TUM in the training of qualified specialists, ready to deal with new challenges in electronics and telecommunications, is a crucial objective, and the expected results can of course only be achieved by continuously strengthening the training process. The Government of the Republic of Moldova gives priority to the IT sector, and such investments in education, training and improvement will be the guarantor of skilled graduates, but also of a secure cyber environment for citizens and for the state”.
The Vice-Rector Dinu ȚURCANU, responsible for the development of the IT sector at TUM, reiterated that the creation of this laboratory is an important and tangible step towards strengthening the capabilities of the specialists of today, in order to manage the security of IT infrastructures efficiently and effectively, while being able to resolve vulnerabilities and counter cyber security threats.
We mention that the Latvian company MikroTik was founded in 1995, and to this day it has managed to become one of the top companies in the production of equipment for communication networks, including wireless equipment. Among the most important products of this company is the RouterOS software, with the help of which each computer can be transformed into a router with possibilities such as Firewall, VPN server, VPN client, flow control and wireless access point.
TUM students, trained at Mikrotik Academy, will be able to implement the mentioned routers and switches in their activity, as well as the MikroTik operating system.
The new skills developed by students within the MikroTik courses will provide an important foundation for building a career as an engineer in the field of network administration. It is important to note that, in these courses, students will gain the knowledge necessary to obtain MikroTik certificates, globally recognized.
As a MikroTik training Center, the Technical University of Moldova will offer students the opportunity to obtain international industrial certificates, which will be proof of high knowledge in the field, but also increase the chances of obtaining a prospective job in the field. For example, the MTCNA (MikroTik Certified Network Associate) and MTCRE (MikroTik Certified Routing Engineer) Certificates confirm the qualification of expert in network administration for their holders, offering them a successful career in the field.
