The 1st of September marks a new beginning for all those who step into their first year of school or university. A beginning different from previous ones, bounded by new challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, but just as special, joyful, and full of hope.
The newly enrolled students, as well as their seniors, were greeted through the screens of their computers by the rector of UTM, prof., Dr. Viorel BOSTAN, who welcomed them with an encouraging message, urging them never to cease to stay curious:
– At the Technical University of Moldova, we hoped and did our best to assure that the 1st of September, for certain, signifies a new beginning, with new perspectives. The study spaces, renovated and equipped according to modern standards, are ready to be utilized for promoting the spirit and importance of the thorough acquisition of new knowledge. Despite the fact that only the teachers and the filming crew are present in the classrooms, students are expected to attend on the other side of the screens, and for them, we have prepared a vast online library with over 1,000 hours of lectures, laboratory works and assignments in video format for 6 fundamental courses of UTM: mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, programming, and technical drawing. These will be broadcast live, according to the schedule established at each faculty, designed to facilitate students’ non-stop access to courses. And so that those who wish can return and review the recordings of the video lessons, as they will be stored on the unique platform https://lectii.utm.md/, launched today, September 1, 2020. The recordings can be accessed remotely, from any corner of the world, at any time, both in Romanian and in Russian. All you have to do is access the portal, choose the course section, the desired topics and … learn.
Behind the scenes, of equivalent importance was the direct support of the vice-rector Dinu ȚURCANU and of the DTIC team – Information and Communications Technology Directorate (Head of Directorate – Vasile CHETROI), who, during several months, facilitated the recording and processing of video teaching materials.
UTM students have shown incredible motivation and optimism for the new academic year. The start of the new semester proved to be promising, and we’re looking forward to it.
In a nutshell, “it is not the walls that make a school, but the spirit that reigns in it”!
