The university professor, Dr. Oleg LUPAN, head of the Department of Microelectronics and Biomedical Engineering of Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics, UTM, was selected, based on an international competition, as professor by courtesy at the largest university in the US – University of Central Florida (UCF), an innovative TOP10 university, according to US News & World Report.
UCF is ranked among the top 600-800 universities in the world by Times Higher Education, offering over 200 study programs for approximately 70,000 students in 3 cycles of study: Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate (over 8000 doctoral students). UCF was founded in 1963, originally called Florida Technological University. Growing over time, it expanded its spectrum of programs, becoming the University of Central Florida, with over 2533 tenured professors. As a result of the fruitful collaboration of UTM and UCF in the field of scientific research, over 70 articles reviewed in prestigious international journals, patents and various projects have been published.
Prof. Oleg Lupan graduated from UTM in 1993, from the Faculty of Electrophysics (currently the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics), the specialty Microelectronics and semiconductor devices (today – “Microelectronics and nanotechnologies”), later obtaining the title of Doctor of technical sciences at the Institute of Applied Physics, later pursuing the postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Central Florida (USA) and the National Center for Scientific Research (Center National de la Recherche Scientifique – CNRS, Paris, France), positions achieved by international competition based on the Diplomas obtained at UTM, Moldova. He later worked as an expert and scientific researcher at various centers and universities around the world. Prof., Dr. Oleg Lupan also did his post-habilitation in the USA, France and Germany, being later accepted as a habilitated professor based on the results of research, diplomas and scientific degrees obtained at UTM and ASM. He holds the National Award, but also reached the TOP1% Highly Cited Researcher 2018 worldwide, according to Web of Science. Thus, through his meritorious example, the studies conducted within UTM also found approval internationally, as they are sustained by the knowledge, skills and experience gained over the years.
Dr. Lupan teaches courses for most specialties of the Faculty of Computers, Informatics and Microelectronics at UTM, especially for the study programs Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies and Biomedical Engineering, being the holder of 6 courses: Solid Body Physics, Electronic Devices and Circuits, Optoelectronic Systems, Design Techniques for VLSI structures, Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials, Power Semiconductor Devices, Nano-microelectronics and Optoelectronics, for all 3 university cycles. He has been working at UTM for 27 years, having had internships at various universities and scientific centers in Germany, France, Italy, USA, Russia, Ukraine, Romania, etc.

Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies are fields of science and technology strictly necessary for the sustainable development of countries with an advanced economy and include all means, methods of human activity necessary for the design, development and production of electronic and optoelectronic equipment, devices and systems, integrated circuits, microelectronic systems, elaboration and implementation of nanotechnologies, new multifunctional materials, as well as the use of micro-electronic systems in electronic equipment, computing technology, automation, as well as the implementation of electronic systems in various branches of the economy.
Biomedical (clinical) engineering studies the diagnostic, therapy, monitoring and laboratory equipment used in medicine and biology, as well as the principles, methods and techniques that underlie the operation of this equipment. The main role of bioengineers in the clinical field is to train and supervise technicians and doctors working with medical equipment, to select products/services and to ensure their proper installation and use, providing specialized advice to other members of the hospital (doctors, administrators, IT specialists). Bioengineers are those consulted with by manufacturers of medical devices in order to improve the performance of devices based on clinical experience, but also to monitor technological progress so as to prevent the aging of medical devices.
