I. GENERAL INFORMATION
Since its founding in 1964 the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE) was always in motion, was adapted to the requirements of time and society, maintained the quality standards at the highest level, integrated educational process with that of scientific research. During this period at department were trained over 1,600 highly qualified engineers for the national economy in the areas of Electromechanics and Infrastructure of Quality. The first promotion of 27 graduates of the specialty “Electrical machinery and apparatus” was in the December 1964 (enrolled the State University in the 1959 and transferred to TUM).

The fundament of the Department EE was created by the fruitful work of heads of the department and teachers Vladimir MISIN, Constantin BALASOV, Nicolai KOBALEATCHI, Alexandru GLADCHI, Mihail PALADI, Nicolae JITARI, Nicolae BELDIMAN, Alexandr NEDZELSCHI, ALEXEI CRAMARENCO, Leonid SCREBET, Victor OLHOVSCHI, Evgheni ZABUDSCHI, Nicolae CIOBANU, Ion SOBOR, Vladimir SEVCIC, Tudor CIURU, Valeriu BLAJA, Andrei CHICIUC, Cornel GHRETESCU, Alexandru TARLAJANU, engineers Valeriu BORDEAN and Gheorghe GUTIC.
The future of the department is bound to the younger generation: Marcel BURDUNIUC, Daniela DIMOV, Iurie RATA, Petru VARLAN, Vasile RACHIER, Vadim CAZAC and others.
II. SPECIALISTS PROFESSIONAL TRAINING
The teaching staff of the department provides professional training of highly qualified specialists at all levels of university studies: license, master, doctorate.
The EE Department is responsible for professional training of the engineers at the specialties 524.1 – Electromechanics (EM) and 529.1 – Engineering and Quality Management (EQM, previous name – Metrology, standards, control and production certification). For Cycle II there are organized masters programs “Electrical Engineering” and “Engineering and Quality Management”.
Electromechanics Specialty is based on electromechanical converters (electrical engines and generators) of electricity production and its use for driving mechanisms, plant and machinery in all spheres of human activity. The modern Electromechanics focuses on efficient conversion of energy and imposes interdisciplinary nature of training: Electrotechnics, Electrical machines and transformers, equipment and electrical drives, mechanical measurements, sensors and transducers, electronic devices and power electronics, systems theory, information technology, generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources energy, automation of technological processes, robotics, automotive electrical and electronic equipment, household appliances etc. Engineers licensed in Electromechanics successfully operate at enterprises of electrotechnical profile (Electrotehnoimport, TehElectro-SV, Energo-Rotor, Electromotor-Service, Hidromaş, Regia de Transport Electric, Union Fenosa, Lift-Service), implement technological automated lines manufacturing food (dairies, bread, beverages, cigarettes), industrial (metallurgical plants, building materials, cardboard, footwear factory and clothing), communal services (Termocom, Apa-Canal, reparation of household appliances for home and office)carries their own business in the field.
The program of study is the first Electromechanics Moldovan Engineering program of European accreditation (German Agency quality assurance
Specialty Engineering and Quality Management as part of the Republican quality infrastructure, trains specialists in the fields of metrology, standardization, control and product certification, quality management of products and services, auditing of quality system etc. Specialty includes Metrology, Standardization, Conformity Assessment, Technical Supervision, Consumer Protection, Audit and Quality Management according to the ISO international standards. The program provides thorough study of production processes and quality management systems, and methods of measuring and conformity assessment procedures, including certification with a major share of practical activities. Graduates of specialty works as metrology experts in various insitutions (National Institute of Metrology, National Standards Institute, Center for Applied Metrology and Certification, Agency for Consumer Protection), departments and specialized laboratories (Gas Natural Fenosa, Red-Nord, Apa-Canal Termoelectrica), manufacturing and service sector companies (Franzeluta, Orhei-Vit, Carmez Lapmol, Airport etc.), auditors in the field of quality management systems.
The high results of professional formation are confirmed by employing at 90-95% of graduates in the workforce market. Our graduates in different years have led and lead factories Moldovahidromas, Electromas, Energy Institute of the Academy of Sciences, founded and run their own companies (TehElectro-SV, Salve, G-Automation etc.), is the cornerstone of modern enterprises for Automation (Salonix, TehNet) and republican quality infrastructure (INM, INS, CMAC etc.).
The quality of graduates is appreciated by annual obtaining of TUM Senate prizes for best license thesis and technical creativity, Government, Soros scholarships, etc. MoldCell for the best students.
III. DIDACTIC-METHODICAL ACTIVITY
Currently, 23 teachers activate at the department: 3 university professors, 9 associate professors, 4 senior lecturer and 6 university lecturers. The teaching staff has published over 250 didactic works, monographs, guidebooks and other methodical materials necessary for the educational process, including 15 manuals.
Teachers of Department possess at the highest level the computer and information technologies, using online teaching and training methods. On the Moodle platform of the university teachers placed more than 20 courses, with guids, self-assessment and verification tests, to which students have access at anytime and from anywhere.
The teaching staff of the department constantly raises their qualification level, attends qualification courses at universities in Romania (Bucharest, Iasi, Craiova, Cluj-Napoca, Suceava), France, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Holland, Denmark, and others.
The Department exchange teaching staff with the electrotechnical profile departments of Romania, so the best teachers are associated from both sides to hold courses for students in Chisinau, Iasi, Craiova, Cluj, Suceava.
Students superior grades are hired to do their practice in the organizations and enterprises of Moldova (Moldovahidromas, Volta, Electric-Service, ElectroTehnoImport, TEHELECTRO-SV, Lift-Service, Energo-Rotor, National Institute of Standardization and Metrology from Chisinau, university Center “Metronome”) and Romania (Resita machine buildingplant).
IV. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND TECHNICAL ACTIVITY
DEE scientific research is connected to the current needs of national economy and current trends in the field through various national programs (state programs, institutional, technology transfer, grants, economic etc.) and international (grants, bilateral, MRDA, UNDP etc.).
The research activity of Department is focused on 5 basic directions, which are in full correspondence with national policy in the fields of energetics, energy efficiency and developing of national economy.
The teaching staff of the department involved in research, have published over 20 monographs and textbooks, 1000 scientific works, 80 registered invention patents.
DEE trained 3 hab.dr., and about 25 PhD in Technical Sciences. Five members of the department are with the right to lead a doctorate. At the department annually continue their university studies at Cycle 3, 3-5 PhD students. In the last years have defended their PhD theses graduates of Department Ion MUNTEAN and Vasile RACHIER (UTM) Adrian CEBAN and Sergiu SAVIN (France), Diana Oprea (Czech Republic). More graduates do their doctorate in Romania, France, Netherlands.
Since 1997, every two years with similar faculties of the Technical University of Iasi and Craiova University is organized the International Conference of Electromechanical and Energetic Systems “SIELMEN”. In theframe of these conferences there were published 18 volumes of scientific works of scientists from Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Canada, Italy and Moldova.
In addition to the department there activate the University Center Energie-Plus (Director – prof., PhD. I. SOBOR, interested in the field of renewable energy sources) and the University Center Metronome (director – Assoc., Dr. A. Tarlajanu, interested in in metrology certification and quality assurance).
Characteristic for the DEE is the fact that students actively combine theoretical studies with technical creativity in the fields of generators and special electric engines, Programmable electromechanical systems, automation and energy efficiency of technological processes, renewable sources of energy, digital measurement systems and verification of measuring devices. Students of Department are awarded annually by the Agency of intellectual property protection AGEPI for the most original student works.
The department is present at various internal, national and international exhibitions.
V. MATERIAL AND TECHNICAL BASIS
The Department of Electrical Engineering occupies an area of 795 m², where there are located 11 laboratories endowed with equipment, measuring instruments, machines, electric transformers, stands for laboratory works, other devices and instrumentation necessary for providing training of future engineers; 4 computer rooms equipped with 40 modern computers, internet, Wi-Fi; lecture rooms equipped with interactive electronic tables.
Technical-material base was strengthened lately mainly from sponsorship from partners from the business environment “ElectroImport” JSC, “TEHELECTRO-SV”, JSC “Volta”, JSC “Salonix” JSC “Informbusiness”, JSC “Becor “etc.) and European projects” Tempus “, in which members of the department have been actively involved. New laboratories for electrical equipment, programmable controllers and renewable energy sources have been created. Separately were made adjustable stands electromechanical systems, energy efficiency of technological processes, checking the electric meter, computerized measurement etc..
VI. THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT
The EE The Department In the last years has broadened its partnership relations with essential economic and industrial enterprises from home and abroad. Mostly this is due to the adjustment of education programs to the real needs of employers and the supply of well trained graduates and connoisseurs of modern production technology, automation, measurement and quality assurance.
Catedra dispune de acorduri de parteneriat direct cu companiile SA „ElectroImport”, SA „TehElectro-SV”, SA „Volta”, SA „Salonix”, SA „ElectroMotor-Service”, SA. „Energo-Rotor”, SA „Salve” din domeniul electromecanicii și automatizărilor și cu institutele INM, INS și CMAC. Ca rezultat , companiile-partenere își selectează viitorii angajați deja de la anii 2-3 și le asigură locuri de practică pe profil, inclusiv prin angajare part-time, iar studenții realizează teze de an și licență pe probleme actuale ale întreprinderii, dobândesc aptitudini practice la locul de muncă real.
Parteneriatul cu mediul de afaceri este reciproc avantajos. Partenerii contribuie la consolidarea bazei materiale a catedrei și sponsorizează diferite activități și manifestări științifice. În schimb, catedra oferă consultaţii legate de tehnologia elaborării și producerii echipamentelor și maşinilor electrice, sistemelor de acţionări electrice pentru automatizarea proceselor tehnologice, formarea specialiștilor la ciclurile 2 și 3 (master și doctorat).
VII. INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP
Collaboration with the same profile Departments of the universities of Bucharest, Iasi, Craiova, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Resita, Suceava is fruitful.
The Department participates in the development and implementation of reforms in higher education, collaborating with universities in France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Sweden, Germany, Estonia and others.
Interuniversity Partnership also takes place through students participation at internal conferences (ElStud, Suceava), student exchange for internships (Hunedoara, Resita) mobility programs ERASMUS (Suceava, Timisoara, Warsaw etc.).
The EE of Department teachers are members of the Technical Academy in Romania (prof. T. Ambros and P.Todos), colleges for publishing specialty journals, scientific committees of international conferences ICAT, EPE, MPS, DAS, CNAE, ECMS etc.
